Sandra Oh makes her National Theatre debut in The Misanthrope, Martin Crimp's razor-sharp reimagining of Molière's classic, captured on stage at the Lyttelton and now on the big screen.
Alice is a brilliant novelist with no patience for the polite fictions everyone around her lives by and no interest in staying quiet about it. As she pushes back against the carefully maintained lies of modern life, the backlash builds, forcing her to reckon with what speaking the truth actually costs. Oh brings real heat and vulnerability to Crimp's contemporary verse, in a production as playful as it is pointed.
