The Barry Arts Festival will welcome the acclaimed Elizabeth Singers to the town next month for a special performance at St Mary’s Church, Barry Docks. The concert takes place on Sunday, 12 July at 4pm.
The Elizabeth Singers, a Cardiff-based vocal consort, are known for their wide repertoire spanning choral music from the 15th to the 21st centuries. The ensemble performs regularly across South Wales and England and is particularly recognised for its interpretation of 16th‑century Elizabethan music.
Formed just over a decade ago by Elizabeth Preece, the group frequently appears at Llandaff Cathedral, where their historically informed performances have earned them a strong following. For their Barry appearance, they will be joined by Aaron Shilson, Deputy Director of Music at Llandaff Cathedral.
Festival organiser Dot Connell said: “I am looking forward to this performance of the Elizabeth Singers at St Mary’s Church in Barry.
“It's a rare opportunity to hear music of this grandeur and passion, and of course to hear Aaron Shilson, a rising star in the musical life of UK cathedrals. This follows our successful ‘1600s at 1600’ event a few years ago, where we heard Elizabethan era music performed on a range of different instruments, and heard about the social context in which the music was composed.
“We would like to thank Barry Town Council for their support for the Barry Arts Festival through their Vibrant Culture Grant.”
Tickets are available at ticketsource.co.uk/barry-arts-festival, with early‑bird tickets priced at £8 plus booking fee, or available on the door on the day of the event.
