More than 450 Scouts from across Cardiff and Vale Scouts came together at the organisation’s Jubilee Campsite in the Vale of Glamorgan on Saturday 26 September to celebrate a trio of milestone anniversaries at a spectacular Big Birthday Bash.
The event marked five years of Squirrels, 40 years of Beavers, and 110 years of Cubs, with hundreds of young members enjoying a packed programme of adventurous and fun-filled activities throughout the day.
Activities included archery, tomahawk throwing, crate stacking, laser shooting, pizza making and even bug eating. A bouncy castle and an ice cream van added to the festive atmosphere, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy from the 30+ activities on offer.
The celebrations included the largest campfire ever held at the Jubilee Campsite, bringing all participants together for songs and celebration. Young people and volunteers sang Happy Birthday to each section before enjoying their own birthday cupcake and receiving a commemorative event badge to mark the occasion.

Chris Parsons, Area Programme Team Leader, said: “This is one of the largest events Cardiff and Vale Scouts has organised in recent years and has involved months of planning and preparation. It simply would not have been possible without the dedication and commitment of our fantastic volunteers, who gave up their time to create such a memorable experience for our young people. We were also lucky enough to enjoy some good weather, which made the day even more special.”
William, aged 12, from 61st Cardiff Scouts, said: “The Big Birthday Bash was a fantastic event! I was helping to make popcorn, and seeing the pure joy on the Squirrels’, Beavers’ and Cubs’ faces made my day. I loved having the opportunity to teach them some cooking skills, and I can’t wait to use those skills again at camp. Thank you to everyone who helped organise such a brilliant event!”
Scouting is a volunteer-led movement that provides young people aged 4 to 25 with opportunities to learn new skills, gain confidence and enjoy adventure in a safe and supportive environment.
Due to growing demand, Cardiff and Vale Scouts currently has a waiting list for young people wanting to join and is actively looking for more volunteers. Flexible roles are available for people aged 14 and over, and no previous Scouting experience is required.
