Saturday, 6 December 2025 15:15

An elderly woman has died after being hit by a car on her way to a local shop.

The woman, aged 81, was hit by a dark-coloured car, which failed to stop, in Longmoor Lane, Fazakerley, Liverpool, at about 4.15pm on Friday.

Officers said the woman died a short time later in Aintree Hospital after suffering serious injuries.

Merseyside Police are searching for the driver.

The road was cordoned off while forensic examinations were carried out, but was reopened by Saturday morning.

"The 81-year-old victim had only popped out to shops, and now her family are trying to come to terms with her loss," said Superintendent Siobhan Russell.

"Specialist officers are providing them with support at this tragic time."

Meanwhile, police are appealing to anyone who has any footage of the incident, including from CCTV, doorbells and dashcams.

"At this stage of the investigation, the full circumstances of the incident are still being established, and I would like to take this opportunity for the driver of the car to search their conscience and come forward," said Ms Russell.

"I would also like to appeal to anyone who has any information which could help us identify the driver to come forward."

She said officers were searching for the car, which may have suffered damage from the crash and may have been parked up or abandoned.

Anyone who may have information on the crash can call Merseyside Police on 0151 777 5747, or email SCIU@merseyside.police.uk quoting 0620 of December 5.
