New Colourful Mural at Barry Athletic Bowls Club

A mural by local artist Jenny Lambert directly opposite the clubhouse, depicts one of the town’s much-loved beach scenes.

The brightly coloured mural of Watchtower Bay and the old harbour replaces an out-of-date advertising board. “It’s based on another one of my paintings, but this was actually done digitally on the iPad,” said Jenny. “I’m really pleased with the outcome.”

Club chairman Gary Williams said:

“I’ve been a long-time fan of Jenny’s work, and when the bowls committee here decided they wanted to get a new sponsor for the board as the previous sponsor had gone, I had the idea of talking to Jenny about it and get some sort of artwork there which would be a great thing for the club.

“So that’s what I did, and she went away and did the necessary work. We wanted something showing the Barry area.”

Jenny, who is now a club sponsor, describes her artwork, which always includes family dog Tinker as “fun, colourful and cartoon-like almost”.

She said creating the mural had “taken longer than we thought, as always. It probably took about 20 hours. I actually sat on the plane on holiday and did some it there. That’s the nice thing about doing it digitally, and it’s very enjoyable actually.”

And the transition, from iPad design to the finished mural, was carried out by Beacon Printers, Penarth.

From her gallery in Cowbridge, where she has been based for seven years, Jenny runs workshops for adults and children, as well as doing a lot of work with local schools.
