Friday, 15 May 2026 10:06

By Kane McMahon

This weekend, the Vale of Glamorgan is filled with activity, with a wide range of events taking place across the Vale. From family-friendly attractions and live entertainment to the final few performances of a hit musical. There’s something for everyone to enjoy. Here are just some of the highlights happening across the Vale this weekend.

We Will Rock You

The latest production from PODS is coming to an end, as it’s the final few days to catch We Will Rock You. Step into a futuristic world where individuality is crushed and music is controlled. Set 300 years in the future on the dystopian iPlanet, a society ruled by the all-powerful Globalsoft Corporation and the ruthless Killer Queen. Real music and musical instruments are banned and creativity is a thing of the past. But when a dreamer named Galileo begins hearing mysterious lyrics from a forgotten age, he teams up with the rebellious Scaramouche and a group of underground rebels known as the Bohemians.

Gwyl Fach Y Fro

Gwyl Fach Y Fro returns to Barry Island this weekend for another celebration of Welsh language, music and culture. This vibrant festival brings together performers, artists and the local community in a lively and welcoming atmosphere.

This year’s lineup includes acts such as Aleighcia Scott, alongside a mix of bands, schools and community performers. A new addition for this year is “Hafan Iolo”, a dedicated covered space offering talks, workshops and activities for both children and adults, making the festival even more inclusive and engaging. Whether you’re a fluent Welsh speaker or simply curious, this event offers a fantastic way to experience the culture and creativity of the region. The event has also been extended to Sunday 17th May to add more hype and support around the Barry Island 10K!

Barry Island 10K

The Barry Island 10K takes place on Sunday 17th May and promises an energetic and uplifting day by the sea. This popular race features a fully closed-road 10km route, taking runners through some of the Vale’s most scenic spots, including Whitmore Bay, Romilly Park, the Knap and Watch House Bay.

Although the event has sold out once again, spectators are encouraged to come along and support the runners. The atmosphere is always electric, with crowds lining the route to cheer participants on, making it just as enjoyable to watch as it is to run.

Visitors can meet a range of special guests from iconic TV shows and films, including Mat Horne, Colin Baker, and Chris Barrie, among many others.
