Girl guides from across the Vale helped to launch the RNLI's new water safety badge in Barry Island.
The lifeboat charity teamed up with Girlguiding Cymru to create a new challenge pack aimed at inspiring young people to learn vital safety skills and understand the RNLI's 200-year history.
Among those earning their Mayday challenge badge at an event on Tuesday evening were girls from the 1st St Athan Rainbows, the 3rd Cadoxton Brownies, the 10th Barry Guides and the Cadoxton Rangers, accompanied by leaders and commissioners from the Cardiff and East Glamorgan area.
As well as numerous games and activities, they also got to meet Katie - a sixth generation crew member based at the nearby lifeboat station in Barry Dock.
Sarah-Jane Burns, deputy chief commissioner at Girlguiding Cymru, said: "We are excited to launch this challenge pack in celebration of the RNLI’s 200th anniversary."
"It’s important that our members are aware of the dangers of the sea and understand how to respect it. This fun-filled pack will teach us how to stay safe and have a great time. Perhaps it will even inspire some of our members to become volunteers with the RNLI in the future."

To earn the new badge, members must complete the challenge, which teaches the RNLI's four key safety messages for children - stop and think, stay together, float and call 999.
It takes up to four sessions to earn the bridge, which according to the RNLI, will ensure participants gain essential knowledge that can be shared with friends and family, as well as helping to promote a safer environment around water.
Andy Gavan, coxswain at Barry Dock RNLI, added: "This new badge is a fantastic opportunity to introduce young people to the lifesaving work we do."
"By taking part in this challenge, they’re learning essential skills that could one day help save lives. Who knows, some may even become the next generation of lifeboat volunteer crew!"
