Kayne McLaggon announced as Barry's new Head of Academy

Wednesday, 11 March 2026 14:15

By Nathan Spackman

Former Barry Captain Kayne McLaggon has returned to the club as its new Head of Academy.

During his eight years at Jenner Park, McLaggon captained the side and became a key leader both on and off the pitch, earning the respect of teammates, staff and supporters alike.

Following a successful playing career across the professional and semi-professional game, McLaggon built a strong reputation within youth development.

He brings elite Academy experience to the role, having worked within professional EFL academy environments, where he was involved in the development of young players within high-performance pathways.

As Head of Academy, McLaggon will lead Barry Town United's youth development programme, overseeing the club's pathway from academy through to senior football.

His role will focus on developing young players, mentoring coaches and strengthening the connection between the club's grassroots section, the academy and the wider ecosystem in the Vale.

Speaking on his appointment, McLaggon said: “I’m incredibly proud to be returning to Barry Town United in this role. It’s my hometown club which has always meant a lot to me from my time here as a supporter, player and captain. I know what it feels like to put on that Barry Town shirt and I’m excited about the opportunity to now help develop the next generation of players to wear it. There is a real opportunity to build a strong pathway for young footballers in Barry and the wider area, and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
