On Thursday night, St Cyres School in Penarth played host to the jubilant opening of Sister Act: The Musical, directed by the brilliant Jay Excell and produced by the ever-passionate team at Pukka Productions.

With a cast bursting with energy and spirit, the performance captured the hearts of a full house – over 200 strong – all eager to raise their voices in celebration.

Suzannah Hallez led the charge in the role of Deloris Van Cartier, delivering a star-making performance with vocal precision, charisma, and commanding stage presence. Every line landed with purpose, and every note was a revelation.

Kelly Virgill, as Sister Mary Robert, showcased an emotional arc that soared as the character found her voice. Her vocals brought warmth and vulnerability, earning audible admiration from the audience.

Loren Hoare doubled up as Sister Mary Patrick and Tina, bringing comedic timing and infectious joy to each appearance, keeping the crowd engaged and entertained throughout.

Rebecca Hennessey lit up the stage with her portrayals of Sister Mary Martin-of-Tours and Michelle, delighting with quirky charm and expressive energy.

Despite being the first night, where a few scene transitions ran a touch slower than anticipated, the enthusiasm of both cast and crew more than compensated. The atmosphere was electric, and the community spirit palpable, with Penarth showing up in full force to support this homegrown production.

Running until Saturday (26th July), Sister Act offers a joyful burst of summer theatre, whether you're a long-time fan of the film or discovering the magic for the first time.

With toe-tapping music, laugh-out-loud moments, and heartfelt performances, this production stands as a shining example of how local theatre can uplift, inspire, and entertain.

Tickets are available via Pukka Productions on Ticketsource.

"Raise your voice, lift it up to Heaven!" – and in Penarth, that's exactly what they've done.
