Young artists in St Athan are being given extra time to get creative, after the Community Council announced an extension to its 2026 Children’s Art Competition.
The deadline has now been pushed to the end of June, giving families and schools several more weeks to submit entries. The winning artwork will be transformed into a permanent feature on the bus shelter near Four Cross Garage — a high‑profile spot passed daily by residents, visitors and schoolchildren.
The competition invites children and young people to produce artwork inspired by one of five local themes: Community, Coast, Agriculture, Military or Local History. Entries will be judged across four age categories — Primary 4–7, Primary 8–11, Secondary 11–16 — with an overall winner selected from all submissions.
To make taking part as easy as possible, the Council has set up three drop‑off points across the village:
-
St Athan Library
-
The Gathering Place foyer
-
Council post box on Church Lane
Residents who can’t make it to a box can also arrange collection by contacting the Council directly at clerk@stathancommunitycouncil.gov.uk.
A spokesperson for St Athan Community Council said the extension aims to give more young people the chance to showcase their creativity and celebrate the area’s identity. The Council added that it is “excited to see the amazing creations” that will help brighten a well‑used community space for years to come.
The competition is open now, with entries accepted until 30 June 2026.
