A one-man play on the life of the controversial Welsh politican David Lloyd George is coming to Barry as part of the town's Arts Festival.
'I Am Lloyd George' focuses on the complex public and private life of the Caernarfon MP who came to power as Prime Minister during the First World War.
The hour-long play is written by award-winning author & playwright Manon Steffan Ros (''Llyfr Glas Nebo'', ''Blasu'') and stars Llion Williams, best known as George Huws in the classic S4C sitcom 'C'mon Midffild!, as the eponoymous Lloyd George.
It's produced by In Character (Mewn Cymeriad), a theatre company staging productions based on historical Welsh characters and stories.
Dot Connell, Barry Arts Festival organiser, said: "An MP for more than fifty years, Lloyd George was one of the most influential politicians of the early twentieth century."
"Important on the Welsh, UK and international stage, Lloyd George had many links with Barry."
"He was co-leader of the Cymru Fydd movement, which has its roots in Barry; spoke at Barry Market Hall on Broad Street, now the Sir Samuel Romilly, and employed Barry journalist Gareth Jones as his speechwriter and foreign affairs expert."
"This play explores the major events of his life and the choices he made on the journey from a North Wales village to becoming Prime Minister, weighing up the bad and the good of those decisions."
"We are very much looking forward to putting this on in Barry, and thank our sponsors for their continued support in putting on exciting and thought provoking work in the town."
'I Am Lloyd George' can be seen as Cubanas on Broad Street on Wednesday 2nd April at 7.30pm. Tickets are £10 and available from Dot Connell on 07982 319 456 or via Ticketsource.
Barry Arts Festival is sponsored by Barry Town Council and the Newydd Housing Association - and the performance is supported by Noson Allan / Night Out, a Wales Arts Council scheme.
