The Vale of Glamorgan Council is once again calling on residents, businesses and community organisations to help make Christmas special for children and families facing difficult circumstances.
Santa’s Cause, the council’s annual Christmas gift-giving and fundraising campaign, is returning for a fifth year, with organisers hoping to build on the success of previous appeals that have delivered thousands of presents to young people across the county.
The initiative supports children and families known to the council’s Social Services teams, helping to ensure that every child receives a gift to open on Christmas Day.
With many households continuing to face financial pressures, the campaign aims to ease some of the burden experienced by families during the festive season.
Since launching in 2022, Santa’s Cause has relied on donations from local residents, businesses, community groups and council staff. Financial contributions allow volunteers to purchase gifts based on wish lists provided by Social Services teams, ensuring presents are tailored to each child’s interests and requests.
Cllr Lis Burnett, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said “The response to this campaign makes us incredibly proud. People give what they can, businesses get behind it, and our Social Services teams work hard to make sure those donations reach children and families who need them.
“For families already under financial pressure, Christmas can bring additional worries at a time that should be about spending time together and enjoying the festive season. A gift chosen especially for a child can make a real difference and help bring some joy to their Christmas morning.
“Since Santa’s Cause began, thousands of gifts have been given to children across the Vale. We hope that, with the continued support of our wonderful community, we can reach every child supported by our teams again this year.
“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who gets behind Santa’s Cause. It is a lovely reminder of what can happen when a community comes together to support one another.”
