Barry Town United were beaten 1-0 at home to Briton Ferry Llansawel in the Cymru Premier on Tuesday night.
An early goal from Kian Jenkins proved to be enough for the visitors at Jenner Park, as Steve Jenkins' men slipped to back-to-back defeats.
Barry, aiming for an immediate response from last Saturday's 4-0 defeat to The New Saints, opted for just one change with Ieuan Owen making way for Morgan Wigley.
But the hosts fell behind after just six minutes when Jenkins latched onto Dan Jeffries' long ball and volleyed home over George Ratcliffe and into the top corner.
Barry almost found an equaliser on the quarter-hour mark from a Robbie Willmott set piece flicked on by skipper Callum Sainty and forcing Will Fuller into making a point blank save.
Ben Margetson's long range clearance found Ollie Hulbert at the edge of the box, only for the striker to flash wide of the net, while Sainty headed a Willmott corner over the bar shortly before half time.
Barry kept the chase for an equaliser after the break - starting with Willmott's header from a Mikey George cross forcing another fine save from Briton Ferry keeper Fuller.
George found the net on 54 minutes after latching onto Wigley's backheel, but the linesman blew up for offside just as he slotted home into the empty net.
Wigley himself went close with a loose ball that was blocked by Fuller, which fell into Hulbert's path only for the danger to be cleared by a Ferry defender, while a spot of head tennis from another Willmott setpiece ended with Hulbert skimming the ball onto the top of the net.
The hosts had dominated the second half and none other than George Ratcliffe came close to finally drawing level when he headed wide from a last-gasp corner, but Ferry held out for their first win in six league games.
Barry remain seventh - and just a point of the top half of the table - as attention turns to Saturday's clash with a Caernarfon Town side who were beaten 3-1 by leaders The New Saints for their third defeat on the bounce.
Elsewhere, Cardiff Met continued their revival with a third straight league win, beating bottom club Llanelli 3-1.
Penybont remain second thanks to a 2-1 victory at home to Haverfordwest County while Connah's Quay climb to fourth place after beating Bala 3-1 and Colwyn Bay won 1-0 at Flint Town United.
