Barry Rugby Football Club Receives Medical Supplies

Barry Rugby Club has recieved medical supplies from CCR Energy, from the former Aberthaw Power Station site.

As part of the demolition of the former Power Station site, CCR Energy says its taking pride in promoting a circular economy, by donating excess equipment that is no longer needed for the site.

Given its previous function, the power station had many pieces of equipment and supplies that could be useful for nearby community groups.

Barry Rugby Football Club have been fortunate to be a beneficiary of some equipment. CCR Energy were keen to support a sports club that promotes community welfare and engagement, while pushing the importance of using sport for a range of health benefits.

As part of the medical kit and supplies, there were splints, a spinal board, a neck brace, and various other trauma kit which proved vital for a physical sport like rugby.

The rugby club hosts all ages from Creche (ages 3-6), Youth (Under 18s), to Senior (ages 18+), and also a successful Girls Rugby Hub – this donation should come in handy with the hundreds of players using the facilities at Barry RFC.

Equipment such as this is vital for players welfare in situations that can make or break their future, inside and outside of rugby. Specific medic equipment can be very costly, and in times where budgets are becoming more difficult for everyone, this donation has a profoundly positive impact on our club. Thank you CCR Energy.”

Nicola Somerville, Head of Operations at CCR Energy is grateful that the equipment could go to such a positive location, saying: “We are so glad that Barry RFC can make use of medical equipment that is no longer needed on site. Barry RFC is a club that sits within the heart of the community and supports the well-being of individuals of all ages. While I hope they never need to be used, I’m pleased that they now have the best equipment in the event when they are needed.”

The new medical equipment will help coaches, volunteers, and medical staff to provide immediate care during training sessions and match days. Access to the right medical equipment and tools is essential in grassroots rugby, where quick responses can create significant differences in player welfare.

Some rugby clubs may struggle with funding streams, and with equipment like stretchers becoming increasingly expensive, donations such as these are highly impactful in improving safety standards.
