Rugby fans attending the Nations Championship matches at Principality Stadium this month will be playing their part in helping the game in Wales to reduce its impact on the environment.
The stadium is trialling a new reusable cup initiative across all three men’s internationals fixtures in November – starting with today’s clash against Japan.
The switch is part of the Welsh Rugby Union’s ongoing commitment to improving sustainability and reducing waste. The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) has an ambition aiming to make Principality Stadium the most sustainable stadium in the UK.
Reusable cups will be available across the stadium, helping to reduce the number of single-use cups used on matchdays. Supporters are being asked to play their part by returning their cups to purple-coloured dedicated reusable cup collection bins throughout the stadium.
By encouraging the return and reuse of cups, the WRU hopes to embed positive behaviours among supporters and will be exploring opportunities to make reusable cups a longer-term feature for major events at Principality Stadium.
The WRU is encouraging everyone attending today’s game and the matches against New Zealand and Australia later to get behind the initiative, return their cups after use and help make a positive difference for the future of the stadium, the environment and to the nations’ future.
The initiative follows the publication of Welsh Rugby’s new Environmental Progress Report earlier this week, highlighting the organisation’s stated commitment to sustainability and its progress towards creating a more sustainable future for the game in Wales.
