Barry Town United lost 1-0 at leaders The New Saints as the second phase of the Cymru Premier got underway.
Ryan Brobbel's goal was enough for the reigning champions, who extended their lead to nine points at the top of the table.
The two sides will meet again in just over a month's time at the Nathaniel MG Cup final in Bridgend.
Barry manager Steve Jenkins named an unchanged starting XI from the side that beat Llanelli 5-1 to reach the Championship Conference - with returning midfielder Theo Wharton on the subs bench after signing an 18-month deal on Friday.
In the event, there was little leeway from the hosts in the first half, with the only goal coming in the sixth minute - a clever backheel from Jordan Williams allowed Brobbel to cooly slot past George Ratcliffe.
The Barry keeper denied TNS from adding a second from a long-range Issac Jeffries effort and from Eoin Farrell at close range, but in return, the visitors were carving out very few opportunities.
One of those came around the hour mark when Robbie Willmott was brought down by Farrell, leading to Elliot Richards clearing the crossbar with a free kick.
Ratcliffe thwarted Jeffries twice more in the latter stages as TNS held out for a third win over Barry this season.
Barry return north next Saturday for their Welsh Cup quarter final against Cymru North club CPD Y Rhyl 1879 at Belle Vue (2pm ko)

In the other Championship Conference games, Penybont played out a goalless draw with Caernarfon while Colwyn Bay earned a dramatic 2-2 draw with Connah's Quay Nomads.
The Play-Off Conference kicked off on Friday night with Briton Ferry Llansawel beating Llanelli 3-1, while Cardiff Met lost 2-0 at Haverfordwest County and Flint Town United edged out Bala 4-3 in a potential relegation six-pointer.
