Barry Town United have qualified for the Cymru Premier's Championship Conference following a 5-1 win over Llanelli Town.

Two goals from Ieuan Owen helped ensure a top six finish for the first time since 2021.

Steve Jenkins' men are also guaranteed a place in the end-of-season play-offs with a place in the Europa Conference League at stake.

Barry began the final night of Phase One knowing they had to avoid defeat against Llanelli, who were playing their first game under interim boss Terry Boyle, himself a former player-manager at Jenner Park.

Jenkins made just one change from their defeat at Connah's Quay with Keston Davies returning from suspension in place of Dan Barton, who dropped to the bench.

Barry could not have asked for a better start with Mikey George's pinpoint cross finding Ollie Hulbert at the far post to deliver a bullet header past keeper Llanelli keeper Alex Pennock inside two minutes.

If there were any nerves for the hosts, it came on 19 minutes when Bradley Gibbings' half volley beat George Ratcliffe in a well-worked equaliser for Llanelli.

But soon ater the half hour, captain Callum Sainty produced a clinical finish from Robbie Willmott's assist to retae the lead.

Willmott, arguably Barry's most influential playmaker so far this season, again delivered the goods when his goalbound cross was met by Owen who nodded in at the back post on 35 minutes.

Barry picked up where they left off six minutes after the break, with Owen caputalising on a defensive error to slot home his brace from the edge of the box.

Hulbert went close to adding a second when he struck the post before Willmott pounced to add a fifth from a close range on 57 minutes to put the outcome well beyond doubt.

Barry still had a flurry of chances for a sixth goal but with ten-man Cardiff Met held to a 1-1 draw at Penybont and Colwyn Bay going down to an early goal at The New Saints, their job was done.

Indeed, Barry climbed to fifth in the table on goal difference, while the Archers will see out the campaign in the Play-Off Conference.

Elsewhere, Haverfordwest County's slim hopes of a top six finish ended with a 2-0 defeat to Briton Ferry Llansawel while Connah's Quay Nomads were held to a 2-2 draw at Caernarfon Town.

Bala Town moved out of the relegation zone with a 4-0 win at Flint Town United, which saw Lassana Mendes take the lead after just nine seconds.

The second phase of the season gets underway on Friday 23rd January with the FAW due to announce the fixture lists at midday on Friday.
