Barry Town United routed Bala Town 4-0 to earn their first home win of the Cymru Premier season.

Deadline day arrival Morgan Wigley was among the goalscorers as Steve Jenkins' men clinched their first victory in six league games.

The Lakesiders arrived at Jenner Park for their lunchtime kick-off buoyed by a good run of form since Steve Fisher took over as manager from veteran Colin Caton over the summer.

Barry opted for three changes following their midweek league cup win over Llanelli, with goalscorer Ieuan Owen back in the starting line-up and George Ratcliffe returning as goalkeeper.

A pacey start led to an early breakthrough on seven minutes when Robbie Willmott's corner kick was met with a bullet header from Will Richards on the edge of the box.

Another Willmott setpiece nearly led to a second just moments later but Bala keeper Josh Torrance was able to deny both Callum Sainty from close range and the follow-up from Ollie Hulbert on the rebound.

Torrance was put under pressure again towards the half-hour but responded well to block another goal-bound effort from Hulbert and pull off a fine save to keep out Ieuan Owen's shot on target from a Mikey George cross.

Willmott went close with a half volley while at the other end, some fine defending from George prevented a rare Bala half-chance from Jacob Tarasenko.

And it was the midfielder who would double Barry's lead just two minutes before half time - as Ryan Kavanagh's perfect throughball set up George to slot home through the keeper's legs for his first club goal in six years.

The second half took a little while to spring into life, with Hulbert again being denied by Torrance while at the other end, Ratcliffe pulled off a fine save after Hussein Mehasseb attempted to lob over the Barry keeper while he was off the line.

But in the 66th minute, a free kick from Willmott saw the ball scramble into the path of Hulbert, who blasted his shot at the near post into the top corner for Barry's third.

Five minutes later, Cardiff City loanee Wigley broke clear with Sainty's throughball and outpaced the wanting Bala defence before firing past Torrance to open his Barry goal account - in front of Bluebirds' academy chief Gavin Chesterfield in the Sgorio commentary box.

Barry rode out the remainder of the game to climb into the top six of the table - and with keeper Ratcliffe clinching his second clean sheet in three matches.

Next Saturday sees another trip north to face a Flint Town United side looking to recover from their 5-0 defeat at Penybont.

Caernarfon remain top after going 2-0 down at Briton Ferry before producing an impressive fightback to win 5-2 at Old Road - with a second half brace for Adam Davies.

Cardiff Met are still without a win this season but they held out to earn a point in a 1-1 draw with ten-man Connah's Quay, while Haverfordwest County's Ben Fawcett saw red in their 3-0 defeat at Colwyn Bay.

And Llanelli Town's dismal start to life in the Welsh top flight continued with a 6-0 demolition by reigning champions The New Saints, who took full advantage in Craig Harrison's 400th game as manager.
