Barry Town United announced two signings on first day of the transfer window

Following the departure of five key Barry Town United players, the club have announced the signing of two players on the first day of the transfer window.

The transfer window for the JD Cymru League Clubs opened on Monday 15th June, with five pivotal Barry Town players departing prior.

Rhys Kavanagh and Robbie Willmott both announced their retirement, whilst Ollie Hulbert headed to Weston-Super-Mare, Ben Megetson headed to Merthyr Town, and a key player in the club's MG Cup win, Ieuan Owen, headed to Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock.

The first new signing to arrive at Jenner Park was Jack Shaw, who joins from the JD Cymru South team Trethomas Bluebirds.

In the 25/26 season, Jack made 23 appearances for Trethomas Bluebirds, scoring 5 goals and 5 assists.

The second signing is a returning face to Jenner Park - Sion Spence.

Sion made 13 appearances for Barry Town United when he joined the club on loan from Cardiff City during the 2019 - 2020 season.

He's since gone on to play for Crystal Palace, Bristol Rovers, King's Lynn Town, Havant & Waterlooville, Hednesford Town and most recently Gloucester City, where he made 14 appearances and scored two goals in the 2025 - 26 season.

The transfer window closes on Tuesday, 1st September, with the JD Cymru Leagues 2026/27 season due to begin on the weekend of 31st July.
