Barry RFC's hopes of some game time were dashed by the weather after their friendly at Nantffyllon was called off.
The Bombers have been out of action since early November - and with more rain expected this week, that lean spell could stretch further if Saturday’s Admiral League visit to Abercynon is postponed.
Barry were last in action on November 8th at St Albans, where they were beaten 57-28. The Autumn internationals meant three weekends without league fixtures, and the scheduled home league match on December 5th was called off as Caerphilly were still involved in the Division 1 Cup.
“Training’s gone well over the last few weeks,” said head coach Mike Morgan, "but it’s really difficult without game time. You get to a point where, when you’ve gone four/five weeks without a game, training can become a bit tedious."
“We’re trying to keep it as fresh as possible because we know what’s round the corner with Abercynon and Llanharan. We just really need game time as a team now. With Abercynon on Saturday everything will go up ten notches in training now. It’s a big preparation week really."
“We’ve got to start up again. It’s not easy, and that’s why we wanted to play the friendly.”
Instead, Morgan and his players spent Saturday afternoon watching Cardiff lose 28-22 to RGC at the Arms Park in Super Rygbi Cymru.
“We’re keeping everyone together, both on and off the pitch,” said Morgan.
Barry have two fixtures left before the Christmas break - away at Abercynon and then at home to Llanharan on December 20th. Fixtures resume on January 3rd with the derby game away to Penarth.
*Barry Youth’s Cardiff Rugby South 1 League visit to leaders Llantwit Fardre on Saturday was also a victim of the weather. The game will now be played on Thursday night at the Ysgol Bro Morgannwg pitch (7.20pm kick off).
