Barry RFC under-16s enjoyed a weekend in Bath for their end of season tour.

The squad took in a Premiership match at the Recreation Ground on the Saturday, where Bath beat Newcastle Falcons 55-19, beore taking on Bath’s under-16s the following day.

Sunday's match was played in very hot conditions at Bath’s former training ground in Lambridge. In a tight first half, Barry eventually got the upper hand with Kai Charles squeezing over in the corner to open the score. Bath replied just before the interval to make it 5-5.

Barry started well in the second half but the late night and the hot weather took its toll as they ran out of steam in the conditions. Bath took control and added two converted tries to lead 19-5. Barry battled back but they were held out by their hosts.

“Although we didn’t quite maintain our 100% record against English opposition, we gave it everything and will be better for the experience,” said Barry head coach Peter O’Sullivan.

“The lads have been fantastic all year, and despite marginally missing out on a cup final and a big scalp away at Bath in the last few weeks, they can all hold their heads high.”

Elsewhere, Barry's Youth squad are making final preparations for Monday's WRU Youth Plate final against Gorseinon at Newport's Rodney Parade (3.30pm ko) - their last game under head coach John Dimond.
