Dinas Powys golfer Darcey Harry has won her first pro title on the Ladies European Tour.
The rookie marked her 22nd birthday weekend with a three-shot victory at the Hulencourt Woman's Open.
Harry, who was competing in only her ninth tour event this season, shot a final round of 68 (four under par) - including five birdies and an eagle at the 13th - to finish the tournament on 13 under par.
“I don’t even know what to say right now”, she said. “I’m so excited. I didn’t think I’d ever picture myself winning on the LET, so it’s so nice to know I’ve finally done it.”
Darcey, who trained at the Royal Porthcawl Golf Club, won the Santander tour event at La Coruña last year before turning professional and earning her European Tour card through qualifying.
Going into Sunday, she was just one shot behind the leader. But despite dropping a shot on the second hole, Harry had built a three-shot lead heading into the back nine at Hulencourt.
Harry followed up an impressive long eagle putt at the 13th hole with another birdie at the 14th.
“I started off with a bogey, but there’s lots of birdie chances out there as the course condition is so good. If you’re hitting good shots, you get rewarded, and I hit a few good putts."
“I think I came out...to try and get a good score, so I wanted to prove to myself I could continue with another good show on the course. I wasn’t really thinking about the leaderboard which I think really helped me.”
Darcey admitted that the winning putt at the 18th was "the most nervous I’ve ever been in my life".
“I was thinking that walking down the 18th and I was pretty nervous about not getting into that, so I think that’s another huge win for me this week.”
France's Nastasia Nadaud was runner-up with Harry's Airbnb flatmate, New Zealander Amelia Harvey, in third place.
Harry's maiden tour victory also guarantees her a return to Royal Porthcawl and a place at the prestigious AIG Women's Open taking place from 30th July - 3rd August.
Before that, the European Tour continues with further events in the Czech Republic, Germany, Ireland, France and Scotland.
And there by Darcey's side is her boyfriend, Jacob Skov Olesen, a DP World Tour golfer who carried her bag thoughout her Belgian triumph.
“He was very good, so he’s not going to be allowed to go back to playing now. He’s actually carrying for me next week, so I’m looking forward to that.”
