Barry Town United fell to their first defeat of the Cymru Premier season with a 3-2 loss to Penybont.

Steve Jenkins' men saw their unbeaten start of the campaign ended as Noah Daley clinched a hattrick on his debut for the visitors.

The first of this term's Five Mile Lane derbies at Jenner Park saw Jenkins hand a first appearance to summer signing Dan Smith in the notable absence of Ollie Hulbert.

Both sides were quick to seek out early chances - particularly from last week's first-time scorer Robbie Willmott, who saw one shot sail over the bar, while a promising setpiece was safely blocked by away keeper Liam Armstrong.

Probably the hosts' best chance of the opening half hour came from some fine build-up play by Mikey George and Ieuan Owen, leading up to another Willmott strike that went begging.

But the midfielder did have a hand in the opener on 34 minutes when his corner was met with a glancing header at close range by skipper Callum Sainty, claiming his first goal of the season.

Five minutes later and Barry's stubborn defence watched on as Mael Davies' flick on from a thrown in led to Noah Daley bundling the ball past keeper George Ratcliffe from the edge of the box.

Barry came out fighting after the break - and went close to quickly regaining the lead from a Dan Smith free kick, but Owen was flagged offside as he rounded the keeper and slotted home into the empty net.

The young forward would twice come close to getting Barry's second in a matter of moments after some fine work from both Willmott and Smith.

But Penybont went onto punish Barry for missed opportunities on 57 minutes - Sainty's ball rebounded off a Penybont defender and into the path of sub Alex Cvetkovic, who found Daley with acres to space to drill home past Ratcliffe and hand Penybont the lead.

A hasty foul on Smith allowed the hosts to restore parity midway through the second half - with Ryan Kavanagh stepping up to beat Armstrong from the penalty spot.

Ex-Plymouth Argyle midfielder Josh Bernard would emerge on the subs bench to make his Barry debut in the dying minutes with the game seemingly ebbing out to a draw.

But Noah Daley would break Barry's hearts in the 94th minute - a long-range kick from Kane Owen was nodded on by Gabriel Kircough towards Daley, whose bullet header into the top corner clinched the bragging rights for Rhys Griffiths' side.

Next up is the short journey to Cyncoed campus on Bank Holiday Monday for another top flight derby against Cardiff Met who fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Haverfordwest County on Friday - a third straight draw for the Archers.

Elsewhere, Tom Walters struck again for Briton Ferry Llansawel - scoring a brace in their 4-2 win over early strugglers Llanelli Town. The former Llantwit Major marksman made it three goals from their opening three games.

Caernarfon are top of the table, having followed up their 6-1 demolition of Llanelli with another free-scoring win - 5-2 at Flint Town United.

Bala Town beat Colwyn Bay 1-0 for their first win of the campaign while The New Saints made it back-to-back victories by beating Connah's Quay Nomads 3-0.
