Llantwit Major are out of the Nathaniel MG Cup after a 2-1 defeat at home to Afan Lido in the first round.
Saturday’s season opener at Windmill Lane marked Karl Lewis’ first competitive game in charge since returning to Major after a three-year absence.
But Lido raced into an early two-goal lead thanks to debutant Lewis Reed, who broke the deadlock from the penalty spot after 10 minutes, before getting his brace four minutes later from a Johden de Mayer.
Major found a reply on 39 minutes, direct from a well-executed free kick by Cameron Gauci, who blasted the ball into the top corner to mark his own return to Llantwit.
The hosts produced an improved display after the break, but Lido held out to end Llantwit’s league cup interest and book a second round clash at home to wildcard entry Swansea City U21s, who routed Carmarthen Town 4-1.
The Cymru South campaign kicks off next Saturday when league newcomers Aberystwyth Town visit Windmill Lane to make their second-tier bow (2.30pm ko)
