Barry Town United began the new Adran Premier season with a 4-0 defeat at home to Swansea City.
Goalkeeper Molly Arnesen was sent off for the hosts in a punishing opening day encounter with the six-time league champions at Jenner Park.
The lengthy close season has seen Barry retain most of their squad apart from retired ex-captain Lauren Harris and Norweigan striker Ingrid Aadland.
But manager Stevie McCarthy Campbell was able to secure the return of two former Linnets with midfielder Chelsea Cochrane handed a start in Sunday's opener and forward India Shanahan on the bench.
There's also two new arrivals, namely former MK Dons full-back Lily Dalton - who made her club debut - and young forward Beca Thomas, who joins from Cardiff Met following their relegation from the top flight.
But on the pitch, Barry found themselves a goal down inside the opening two minutes with a superb free kick from Chloe Chivers.
Arnesen, one of last season's standout performers, did well not to concede any further during the opening 20 minutes, while Thomas almost made an instant impact for Barry when she struck the post.
But the Barry keeper was shown a straight red soon afterwards for denying Aimee Deacon an obvious goal scoring opportunity when the pair collided outside the box.
In stepped 18 year-old Emily Blunt between the posts for her league debut as the hosts rode out a testing first half dominated by the Swans.
Barry were not without their chances with both Sienna Stone and second half sub Ellie Preece both denied soon after the restart by keeper Amelia Forkings.
Alas, the Swans began to assert the dominance just after the hour mark when Chivers struck past Blunt for her second of the afternoon.
Stacey John Davis went onto add a third on 72 minutes, and while Angharad Beman went closest to reducing the arrears, ex-Barry forward Taite Trivett provided the assist for Emily Freeman to complete the rout ten minutes later.
Barry go north next Sunday evening in search of an immediate response when they face Wrexham before the Sgorio cameras at The Rock (5.10pm ko).
Wrexham kicked off their third season in the Welsh top flight with a 5-2 win at Briton Ferry Llansawel while Aberyswyth Town won 2-0 at Pontypridd United.
But reigning champions Cardiff City, who are aiming for their fourth straight league title, went down 1-0 at The New Saints, with Chantelle Teare’s second half goal proving the difference.
