Vale of Glamorgan Football League Round Up 17/10

Monday, 19 October 2026 15:59

By Hywel Dark

With many sides involved in the Hugh James SWFA Senior Cup, the Vale of Glamorgan AFL programme was reduced this weekend, but there was still plenty of drama across the three divisions.

Premier Division

St Athan moved into second place after securing a 3–1 away victory over Peterston Vale. Ioan Gore, Max Morgan and Gethin Jennings were all on target as the Saints claimed an important three points.

Championship

Cardiff Airport Reserves continued their outstanding start to the campaign with an emphatic 8–2 victory over Dinas Powys Reserves. Substitute Archie Jones made a remarkable impact after coming off the bench to score four goals. Airport remain top with a perfect record.

Sully Sports Development moved into second place after coming from behind to defeat Barry Athletic Reserves 2–1. Joseph Chong proved to be the match-winner, completing the turnaround and securing another valuable win for Sully.

Vale United Reserves climbed to fourth following a comprehensive 8–3 victory away to Cogan Coronation Reserves. Adam Preece scored twice as Vale produced an impressive attacking display.

There was derby drama as Llantwit Major Thirds edged St Athan Reserves 3–2 in a back-and-forth encounter. Zac Huxter initially gave St Athan the lead before Jamie Viscount equalised. Sean Whitelock then put Llantwit ahead against his former club, only for Liam Burgess to bring the Saints back level. However, Jac Wisenden had the final say, scoring the decisive goal to secure victory for Llantwit.

League One

Cardiff Airport Vets continued their perfect start at the top of League One with a remarkable 10–0 win over Cadoxton Imps Seconds. David Evans, Josh Cummings and Lee Stradling all scored twice as the Vets delivered another dominant performance.

Ely Rangers Reserves Wenvoe claimed an impressive 5–2 victory over second-placed FC Barry. Elijah Yehoah-Afari led the way with a hat-trick as Ely secured an important win against one of the division's leading sides.

Tadross ended Cowbridge's 100 per cent record with a resounding 6–1 away victory. Dan Morgan scored a hat-trick as Tadross climbed to third place, underlining their growing momentum with their sixth consecutive league win.

Hugh James SWFA Senior Cup

It proved a difficult weekend for VoGAFL sides in the Hugh James SWFA Senior Cup, with Cwm Talwg the only team from the Vale league to progress. They secured a 3–1 victory over Treorchy BGC to become the last remaining VoGAFL representative in the competition.

There was better news for two Vale-based sides competing in the SWFA Premier League. Sully Sports advanced after defeating VoGAFL’s Sparta Park 5-0, while Dinas Powys also progressed with victory over Tongwynlais 3-1.
