Llantwit Major were knocked out of the Welsh Cup on penalties by third-tier club Morriston Town following a 1-1 draw.
The Cymru South club left it late to find an equaliser against an impressive performance from the Ardal South West visitors at Windmill Lane.
But Ben Stait's side - unbeaten in their last eight league outings - found spot kicks to be their Achilles heel again as they bowed out in round two for the second year running.
After an evenly matched first half, Morriston made the breakthrough on 54 minutes when Liam Logan beat veteran keeper Jack Lansdown with Luke Harris providing the assist.
Llantwit's response was no fewer than four substitutions midway through the second half - and they were rewarded as Ioan Emanuel poached home with virtually the last kick of normal time to draw level.
But in the resulting shoot out, Llantwit found themselves on the back foot with Emanuel's kick being saved and the same fate befalling Cian Williams and Nathan Renfree.
It fell to Morriston keeper Steven Cann to deny Rhys Llewelyn's penalty and confirm a 6-5 victory for the visitors, bringing local cup interest to a premature end for this season.
Llantwit's main focus - Fenix Trophy excepting - is now firmly back on the Cymru South, starting next Friday when they visit Carmarthen Town (7.30pm ko)
