Welsh Rugby Union unveils new Home and Alternate kits inspired by the land and legend of Wales

The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) and official kit supplier Macron have unveiled the new Home and alternate kits for the senior national teams.

The designs are inspired by two of Wales' most enduring national symbols, The Welsh Dragon (Y Ddraig Goch) and the country's world-famous slate landscape.

The official launch of the new kits, has taken place at both the Welsh Rugby Store on Westgate Street and the National Eisteddfod, bringing Welsh rugby to the country's largest celebration of Welsh language and culture.

Launching ahead of the 2026/27 international season, the new jerseys celebrate Welsh identity through distinctive designs that connect the national teams with the landscapes, heritage and culture that define the nation.

The new Home jersey, born of the WRU's partnership with Macron which started in 2020, is unapologetically and unmistakably Welsh. The shirt is entirely red, with the exception of the WRU crest and partner logos, creating a bold, contemporary interpretation of one of rugby's most iconic jerseys.

A repeated dragon pattern stretches across the shoulders and sleeves, inspired by Y Ddraig Goch, a symbol synonymous with Wales and recognised around the world. The design continues onto the side panels of the shorts, carrying the nation's identity throughout the full playing kit. The men's shorts return to white, while the women's remain red, with the respective kits completed by red and white socks.

The new alternate kit offers a fresh look, featuring a predominantly white jersey with green detailing inspired by Wales' national colours. Taking its creative inspiration from Welsh slate, a textured slate graphic features across the jersey and shorts, celebrating an industry that has shaped Wales' landscape, communities and global reputation for generations.

Finished with black accents alongside the signature red of the WRU crest and partner logos, the alternate kit delivers a bold new aesthetic while remaining firmly rooted in Welsh history, heritage and craftsmanship.

Together, both kits have been designed around a single idea, creating shirts that carry Wales wherever they are worn, whether on the pitch, in the stands at Principality Stadium or by supporters across the world.

The launch campaign also marks a new creative direction for Welsh Rugby, presenting the playing jerseys alongside lifestyle apparel for the first time. Rather than traditional styling, players were invited to pair the shirts with casual clothing of their own choosing, reflecting how supporters wear the jersey beyond matchday and celebrating its place in everyday life.

The campaign showcases the shirt not only as elite performance wear, but as a symbol of Welsh pride and identity, connecting players and supporters through a shared passion for the game.

The Home and Alternate kits will be available to purchase from 6 August in replica and professional versions from the Welsh Rugby Store on Westgate Street, online at store.wru.co.uk, and through selected retailers.

With prices ranging from £68 for junior replica jerseys to £85 for the senior replica, and £118 for the senior authentic professional jersey, the new collection offers options to suit supporters of all ages and budgets, making it possible for fans to wear their Welsh colours with pride.
