Barry RFC's under 16s began the new year with a 34-7 win over a physical Pontypridd side at Sardis Road.
The young Bombers had signed off from 2024 by celebrating a famous win over London Welsh at Old Deer Park - and followed that up with a visit to another historic ground.
Ponty set their stall out early, with solid defence and powerful scrum, and it was clear it wasn’t going to be an easy afternoon for Barry.
However, with an efficient lineout and some pace out wide, Barry found themselves 12-0 up with full back Tom Halliday grabbing both early tries, showing how deadly he can be with ball in space.
Scrum half Cam Hughes converted the first of Halliday's tries.
Ponty then upped their physicality and their possession eventually broke down Barry’s organised defence with a converted try for a 7-12 score at half time.

The hosts came out fired up after the interval and Barry’s defence had to be solid to deny them any further score.
Once the visitors finally got some possession and territory, they were rewarded with no 8 Max O’Sullivan forcing his way over from close range to add to the lead.
After that Barry settled down and started to play a more expansive handling game, with credit going to Cam Hughes and Lloyd Beer at 9 and 10 for seeing the space and using it.
The last 15 minutes saw Barry take complete control with Tom Halliday grabbing his third try, before Max O’Sullivan got his brace, rounding off a fantastic team move. The scoring was completed by open side flanker Reuben Williams, following a 50 metre break from second row Sam Thomas.
Barry will have to be at their best when they host a very strong St Albans side on Sunday at the Reservoir Field.
