New measures are being introduced to encourage more active travel in the east of Barry.
Vale Council says the aim is to improve routes for cyclists and walkers around three local schools - Palmerston and Cadoxton primary schools, and St Richard Gwyn Catholic High School.
Pedestrian access has already been given an upgrade on Langlands Road and Dobbins Road and through the Pencoedtre and Meadowvale estates.
Work has included installing dropped kerbs, tactile paving and raised kerbs for access to buses.
A public consultation on the scheme was held last December - with work on access to shops and other local facilities due to be completed by Christmas.
Cllr Bronwen Brooks, deputy leader of Vale Council, said: "These changes will encourage people to adopt more environmentally friendly forms of transport."
"Travelling on foot or bike instead of using a motorised vehicle is not only beneficial for health and wellbeing, it is also much better for the planet as it all but eliminates pollution. We hope this project will encourage residents to ditch the car."
“This aligns with the council’s Project Zero commitment to become carbon neutral by 2030. We also want to encourage others to live greener lives and the creation of active travel routes should help achieve that.”
Meanwhile, residents are being asked for their views on a new active travel route along Coldbrook Road East.
A public consultation is being held for the next fortnight on the plans, aimed at improving access to local schools and other key destinations.
