An older people's charity serving Cardiff and the Vale is ending its advocacy support services after nearly 30 years.
Age Connects says the closure of its long-standing service in the region is due to "the end of funding".
The charity initially provided support to individuals in the community before piloting its first care home advocacy project in 1999, later growing to support hundreds of residents.
Age Connects says its community advovcates have also worked 'derteminedly' to improve the lives of older people through personalised support and guidance, incluidng how to navigate complex healthcare systems and access essential services.
A spokesperson added: "They have collaborated closely with social services to address immediate needs and develop long-term care plans, ensuring comprehensive support for older adults."
"Through these efforts, they have facilitated better access to essential services, enhanced resident satisfaction, and fostered a more inclusive and supportive environment."
Maxine Johnson, chief executive of Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale, said: "Our advocacy has led to increased community engagement and improved health outcomes, demonstrating the vital role of advocacy in promoting the well-being and dignity of older adults."
"We are immensely proud of the work we have accomplished and the difference we have made in the lives of so many."
"Our success would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our fantastic team, community, partners, and volunteers. We extend our deepest gratitude to all who have been a part of our journey."
"As we close this chapter, we celebrate the achievements and memories we have created together. We remain hopeful for the future of advocacy in our community and encourage everyone to continue supporting and championing the rights of older people."
The charity is advising anyone seeking support following the closure of the Age Connects service to contact the Cardiff and Vale Advocacy Gateway on 0808 801 0577.
