An armed man from Barry who threatened shop staff with a knife has been jailed.
Gerard Clogg also racially abused a Sainsbury's worker while trying to leave their Park Crescent store last January without paying.
The 54 year-old fled the shop but he was quickly found in Claude Road, while carrying a sock filled with broken glass, which he threw at police.
Officers also found a bag of meat, cheese and wine worth around £27 close to where he was arrested.
Clogg went onto plead guilty to robbery, possessing a knife and an offensive weapon, and a racially aggravated public order offence.
At Newport Crown Court, he was sentenced to five years and three months in prison, including a 15-month suspended sentence which he had received for racially aggravated harrassment.
