The Barry Arts Festival will return for 2026 with a one-man play in Welsh about wartime poet Waldo Williams.
Waldo, being peformed at Cubanas on Broad Street next month, tells the story of the Pembrokeshire-born poet and peace campaigner, best known for his 1941 piece 'Y Tangnefeddwyr' ('The Peace Makers') - a poem often set to music and performed by Welsh choirs to this day.
Actor and singer-songwriter Ryland Teifi stars in the role with the script, produced by the Welsh theater company Mewn Cymeriad ('In Character') and written by the Archdruid of the National Eisteddfod, Mererid Hopwood.
Barry Arts Festival organiser Dot Connell said: "We start 2026 with a Welsh language play about the life of Waldo, one of the most important Welsh poets of the twentieth century."
"His work focuses on the changing nature of rural life in Wales in the early part of the century, and his commitment to promoting peace."
"We look forward to the experienced actor, Ryland Teifi, showing the influences on Waldo's life, his poetry and his campaigning zeal to stop war and save lives."
Waldo can be seen at Cubanas on Wednesday 18th February at 7.30pm. Tickets are £12.50 for adults and £8.50 for under 16s, plus booking fee, and can be bought online via Ticketsource.
