A decision's expected on whether scrutiny meetings will be held remotely
Scrutiny committee meetings at Vale Council may no longer be held in person.
The council's cabinet is due to make a decision on Thursday afternoon on whether such meetings will only be held remotely.
Council officers have recommended the move, which would also bring the mixed hybrid model of in-person and remote attendance to an end.
But the proposals have been attacked by the Conservative group.
Cllr George Carroll, leader of the Vale Tories, said: "It is without doubt that meeting in person allows for better interaction between members, eliminating the risk of technical problems."
"Removing the hybrid meeting option for most committees will lead to worse scrutiny, making the council’s performance even worse."
"The Conservative Group strongly opposes this proposal."
The chairman of the council's scrutiny committee for learning and culture said he was "staggered" by the local authority's "brazen attempts" to stop in-person meetings.
Cllr Rhys Thomas said: "Unfortunately, it’s typical of this Labour council to avoid scrutiny and undermine the democratic process."
"The Cabinet should see sense and ditch these proposals for fully remote committee meetings.”
