A Caerphilly man who rammed police patrol cars during a chase has been jailed.
Niall Bright admitted dangerous driving while disqualified and without insurance following a pursuit which ended when his car hit a road sign in Bonvilston last month.
Merthyr Crown Court heard the 28-year-old was spotted by road officers in the early hours of Monday 19th May, driving a Volkswagen Golf which was linked to an ongoing police investigation.
A stinger was deployed, which was successful on all four tyres of his car, but Bright failed to stop and continued to drive erratically.
In the resulting chase, he drove on the wrong side of the road - including a roundabout - and at almost double the speed limit, while his Golf rammed the patrol cars.
Bright was finally caught when his car collided with a road sign on the A48, and he was immediately arrested.
He was taken to the hospital, but when asked to, he failed to provide a sample for analysis.
In court the following day, he pleaded guilty to all charges, including two counts of assaulting an emergency worker and possessing amphetamine (a Class B drug)
Bright was sentenced to two years and two months in prison and banned from driving for a further five years - he will also have to carry out an extended test.
Following sentencing on Monday, PC Lewry from South Wales Police, said: "Bright showed complete disregard to those around him by driving in such a dangerous manner; this type of driving can have devastating consequences."
"I hope this sentence sends out a strong message, that it is never acceptable to drive in such a manner and that we are always on patrol and could be anywhere."
