Disability Pride Month has been marked locally with a special event at the Civic Offices in Barry.
A flag raising ceremony was held as part of the gathering, organised by the Mayor of Vale of Glamorgan, to celebrate and help raise awareness of the many experiences among the disabled community.
Among those attending were a group of residents from the ValePlus day service and representatives from the mental health charity Mind.
Cllr Naomi Marshallsea, Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan, said: "We celebrate Disability Pride Month each July. This is a time to raise awareness of disabilities, start positive conversations and celebrate the diversity of the disabled community."
"As a mum to a child with a disability, I fully believe in the social model of disability – an understanding that it is society that disables us, not our impairments."
"In the Vale, we aim to work towards a world where the barriers anyone faces are dismantled, so no one faces exclusion or marginalisation."
Following the flag raising, a gathering was held inside the Civic Offices to reflect on Disability Pride Month, which aims to encourage more open conversation about disability and promote greater understanding, as well as highlighting the importance of accessibility and allyship.
Vale of Glamorgan Council leader Lis Burnett said: "As a council, we seek to work together with the community to break down barriers and ensure that accessibility and inclusion is at the heart of everything we do."
"The flag raising for Disability Pride Month symbolises our ongoing journey as we seek to improve the experiences of all residents, and we look forward to continuing these important conversations about access, inclusion and equality throughout the year to make the Vale of Glamorgan a truly welcoming place for all."
