A former Senedd minister is set to become the new chair of the Cardiff and Vale health board.
Kirsty Williams stood down from her Brecon and Radnorshire seat at the last elections in 2021.
The ex-Welsh Liberal Democrats leader served in the Welsh Government as education minister for five years, including the height of the Covid pandemic.
Last year, she was appointed as one of four independent commissioners at the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service Authority, following a damning report into sexism and misogyny.
In a statement on Wednesday, health secretary Jeremy Miles announced Mrs Williams as the "preferred candidate" to chair the region's health board.
But the nomination is subject to a pre-appoint scrutiny hearing by a Senedd committee, which will take place next month,
Mr Miles said an "open and competitive" process had been followed before naming his preferred successor to incumbent Charles Janczewski.
He added: "The board plays a key role in shaping the strategy, vision, purpose and culture of the organisation. It holds the organisation to account for service delivery, performance, delivery of strategy and value for money, and strategic development and implementation."
"The chair will play a vital role in guiding the board to establish the vision and strategic direction of Cardiff & Vale University Health Board, ensuring alignment with the Welsh Government's strategic aims and policies."
A final decision is expected following a scrutiny hearing on Thursday 3rd July.
A spokesperson for CAVUHB said they were not in a position to comment until a decision is made, because the appointment process is run by the Welsh Government.
