A street cleaner, who's helped keep Penarth looking tidy for five decades, has received heaps of praise ahead of his retirement.
Ricky Mountjoy first began his journey with the Council back in 1972, and ever since has been a familiar, friendly face on the streets of Penarth.
Now, after 53 years working for the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Ricky is set to retire, but not before receiving praise from the Council and residents.
In a Facebook post, Vale of Glamorgan Council shared the news of Ricky's retirement, stating they "couldn't let him go without saying a huge thank you"
The Council weren't the only ones to wish Ricky well, with residents sharing their best wishes and praises for his continued work and dedication.
One user on the Facebook post said, "Congratulations, Ricky! Is that the same broom you started with in 1972?" whilst another said, "Congratulations. I remember when you first started. A job well done. Enjoy your retirement."
Others praised Ricky for his commitment to his job in every type of weather, with one social media user saying, "Always out in all weather's working hard. Thank you for all your hard work and keeping the streets of penarth clean. Happy retirement, Ricky", with another saying, "Always willing to say hello when I lived in Plymouth Road. Did a great job. Thanks very much. Happy retirement!"
Ricky's dedication and incredible work earned him the Outstanding Citizen Award in 2017, in recognition of his positive impact on the Town.
Speaking of his time in the role, Ricky said: “I have really enjoyed doing this job, in this area of Penarth, for all these years. I’ve loved working for the Council and will miss it tremendously, but now, it’s time for me to retire.”
