A 53 year-old man has died after he got into difficulty in the water at Ogmore-by-Sea.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 10.30am on Sunday morning.
South Wales Police said the man was recovered from the sea by RNLI crews and was pronounced dead at the scene.
He has not been named publicly, but his next of kin and the local coroner have been informed.
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said the coastguard helicopter from St Athan was sent to the scene, along with rescue teams from Porthcawl, Llantwit Major and Port Talbot.
The RNLI called out lifeboat crews from Porthcawl and Barry Dock with the Welsh Ambulance Service and the Welsh Air Ambulance also in attendance.
The incident came during a yellow weather warning for strong winds across the Vale of Glamorgan and the rest of Wales, with gusts of around 50-60mph expected during Sunday.
