A man has been rescued by lifeboat crews after he was swept off the causeway at Sully.
The RNLI at Penarth was initially called out at around 3.20pm on Monday afternoon to a yacht after its engine failed near the Wolves buoy.
The inshore lifeboat crew was assessing the vessel when it was diverted to the nearby causeway, where they found one person being dragged out by the tide 30 metres from the shoreline and struggling in the water.
Members of the public alerted the coastguard and shouted advice to the man to "float to live".
The man was thrown a line and rescued before he was taken back to shore after a quick assessment to bet met by a mobile coastguard team from Penarth.
The lifeboat then returned to the broken down yacht, which was being towed into Cardiff by a nearby fishing boat.

In a separate incident on Sunday night, the RNLI at Penarth was also called out to a yacht which suffered a loss of engine power and ran aground amid a failing tide.
The lifeboat crew made the yacht safe and returned to station, before relaunching at 1.45am to escort the yacht to the safety of the Cardiff Bay Barrage.
