Work has started on upgrading the former Murchfield Courts in Dinas Powys.
A new multi-function community space is being created, which will include a dual basketball and netball court, that can also be used for other activities including yoga and dance.
A public consultation with local residents on how to improve the site took place during the summer of 2023.
The new facilities are due to be completed by March.
Around the court, there are a number of bench seating options that can be used as fitness equipment and new soft landscaping to increase the area's biodiversity.
Cllr Mark Wilson, cabinet member for neighbourhood services, said: "These are much-needed improvements to the Murchfield Courts following consultation with the community in Dinas Powys."
“This redevelopment will provide residents of all ages with an even better place to relax, socialise, exercise and enjoy being outdoors."
“I look forward to seeing the new facilities when completed - which will undoubtedly be a brilliant multipurpose resource for the community.”
This is the second phase of the Murchfield Court revamp, which began with work to upgrade the nearby playground four years ago.
Grants from Sport Wales and the UK Government's Shared Prosperity fund are going towards the project, along with Section 106 contributions from local developers, specificially for the public art and open space elements.
Art consultants Aberrant Architecture have been appointed by Vale Council to design the new public art elements, such as the surface of the courts, the seating and the perimeter fencing.
Cllr Rhiannon Birch, cabinet member for the arts, added: "The redevelopment works at Murchfield Courts will provide residents with a new interactive space for all to use and enjoy."
“Combining public art and public open space, Section 106 developers funding has enabled contractors to create a multi-functional and accessible community resource."
