Prayer mats have been introduced on wards at Llandough Hospital for patients in need.
Umbrella Faith, a Cardiff-based company, has recently provided 20 extra prayer mats to the Cardiff and Vale health board for use at both Llandough and the University Hospital of Wales.
Sanctuary rooms are already available to patients, staff and visitors at hospital sites across the region, offering a safe space for people to pray, collect their thoughts or seek support.
The new additional mats have been made available for people who may be unable to attend their nearest sanctuary room.
Umbrella Faith was launched last year by Sadique Maskeen following the birth of his child at UHW. While his wife was in labour, he wanted to remain by her bedside, but was also longing to pray.
He's since been working with businesses and services across South Wales to ensure more prayer mats are available to those who need them.
“That would have been hugely comforting for me, knowing at that I could take a moment and pray without leaving the ward”, he said.
The new prayer mats, funded by the patient experience department at CAVUHB, are now available on the palliative care, mental health, children’s oncology and delivery wards at both Llandough and UHW.
