Sleeping Beauty is at the Paget Rooms in Penarth from 5th - 8th December.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - A joyous, hilarious, quality performance that captures the festive spirit perfectly
Last night, I had the privilege of attending an advanced performance of 'Sleeping Beauty' by Penarth Operatic and Dramatic Society at the Paget Rooms in Penarth. What a delight it was! The show officially opens tonight, but if you’ve got tickets, you are in for a real treat.
The level of professionalism in this production is immediately evident. From the staging and the actors to the lighting and music, everything was executed flawlessly. The pantomime is wonderfully written and directed, capturing the essence of a classic Christmas show with impeccable comic timing and charm.
There is truly remarkable talent in the cast and crew, and it's fantastic to see local talent showcased so brilliantly. Congratulations to everyone involved—my face is still aching from laughing so much!
Amongst the Incredible Talent, a few standout mentions are well deserved that firstly include Andy Bradshaw, who wrote and directed the pantomime. Striking the right balance in a family-friendly Christmas show with tongue-in-cheek humour is no small feat, yet Andy manages it brilliantly.
The result is a coherent and engaging story that stays true to the traditions of Commedia dell'Arte and rivals many professional pantomimes I've seen and performed in.
The Incredible Penni Carr, who plays the villain ‘Morgana Maleficent’ embodies the traditional panto villain perfectly, giving the audience every reason to ‘boo’ and ‘hiss’ with delight.

Alex Wilson plays ‘Nanny Poppins’ and epitomises the panto dame with every scene. His performance is memorable, energetic, and truly gets the audience involved. Also, Becky McVicar, who portrays a charming ‘Sleeping Beauty’. Becky’s exceptional singing voice and innocent charm add layers of humour and warmth to the character.
And last but far from least; Peter Knowles, who brings the character of ‘Prince Schwarzkopf’ to life with an unforgettable entrance and a delightful accent that adds to the fun (and who’s Character has a standout entrance!).
Productions like ‘Sleeping Beauty’ are a testament to the dedication and hard work of the entire team. It takes a village to bring such a performance to life, and this production highlights the values and passion of the Penarth Operatic and Dramatic Society. It’s wonderful to see such high-quality theatre right here in the Vale of Glamorgan.
‘Sleeping Beauty’ at the Paget Rooms is a must-see this Christmas. It's a joyous, hilarious, quality performance that captures the festive spirit perfectly. If you haven't secured your tickets yet, make sure you do—you're guaranteed an evening of entertainment and fun.
