Two airports in the Vale have won a health and safety industry award.
Both Cardiff and St Athan airports shared the Airports UK honour for medium-sized airports, recognising its teamwork and standards of safety and security.
Earlier this year, the two sites took part in an annual week of activities aimed at key health and safety issues such as PPE (personal protective equipment), working at height and environmental airside safety for colleagues and passengers.
Pupils from St Athan Primary School also attended the opening day at the Rhoose airport in May, getting an inside look at their fleet of safety vehicles and watching demonstrations from its fire safety team, including how to extinguish a fire.
Ceri Mashlan, operations director at Cardiff Airport, said: "This is fantastic recognition for the entire team at both Cardiff and St Athan airports. Thank you to our teams who worked tirelessly planning and delivering such a successful event that we’ll all look back on with pride."
Karen Dee, chief executive of AirportsUK, added: "What really impressed us with this year’s winners was how they incorporate their activities focussed on health and safety into everything they do, all year round."
"We hope that by highlighting the brilliant work being done, we can help everyone appreciate the importance of ensuring a safe and wellbeing-oriented environment."
"All our members do such incredible work and continue to develop how they approach health and safety, which makes them world leaders in the area.”
