An emergency investigation is underway after a sinkhole appeared on High Street in Penarth.
Vale of Glamorgan Council says crews have found a large void beneath the surface, following reports of a failed reinstatement.
It's believed a water leak may be the cause of the sinkhole, although that's yet to be confirmed.
Barriers have been placed around the area to ensure public safety.
A council spokesperson said: "Some disruption is expected while the source is investigated and repairs are arranged. We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience while this issue is dealt with."
