Ski flights to the French Alps are set to begin from Cardiff Airport in time for Christmas.
TUI is teaming up with its skiing partners, Crystal Ski, to offer a weekly route between the Rhoose airport and Chambéry, running every Saturday from 21st December to 15th March 2015.
It's the first time the airport has been able to offer a direct ski route in five years.
The medieval town of Chambéry is located within two hours of some of the world's best known ski resorts, such as Val d'Isère to La Plagne, Courchevel to Méribel.
Lee Smith, head of business development at Cardiff Airport, said: "We’re delighted to announce this news. Our customers have been asking for a ski route for quite some time."
"It’s fantastic Crystal Ski has now reacted to customer demand, allowing people living in Wales to fly from their national airport. Customers have a breadth of fantastic ski resorts within easy reach of Chambéry and we know this route will be extremely popular."
The Welsh Government, which bought out the airport in 2013, is aiming to boost numbers further and improve the airport's facilities by giving over £200 million in subsidies - subject to a review by the competition regulator.
Reacting to the proposals, a spokesperson for Bristol Airport said: "We are aware of the Welsh Government's further substantial £206 million state-subsidy proposal for Cardiff Airport, and we expect to be formally notified by the Competition and Markets Authority, given Bristol Airport's close proximity, positive economic impact and existing service provision for many customers from South Wales."
They added: "As the fourth largest regional airport in the UK, and the largest in the west of the UK, the airport employs more than 4,000 people, including providing many jobs for people in South Wales, while also helping to significantly support the Welsh economy without the need of any state financial contribution."
