A soft plastics trial in the Eastern Vale of Glamorgan has been praised, with the scheme already collecting 2.5 tonnes of soft plastics from homes every week.
The trial, funded by Welsh Government, started on Monday, 21st April, in Dinas Powys, Penarth, Llandough, Sully and surrounding areas.
Now, 11 weeks in Vale of Glamorgan Council says it's collecting around 2.5 tonnes of soft plastics every week, around the weight of a rhinoceros.
It's now seeking the views of participants on all aspects of the trial, with responses used to determine if the scheme could be rolled out more widely.
Users on social media have praised the scheme, with one user stating, "It's absolutely astounding how much scrunchy plastic we were having to throw away before you rolled this out. Even my parents are committed to it! It's an eye-opener of how much plastic is used in the food industry."
Whilst another user, who isn't part of the current trial scheme,e said "I have been collecting soft plastics for some time and have taken them to Tesco for recycling. I would be pleased if this pilot scheme could be expanded to the rest of the area, the Vale."
Residents taking part in the trial can complete a survey to provide feedback and be entered into a prize draw to win a £50 One4All Gift Card.
