A prolific thief has been banned from the Holton Road area of Barry for three years.
Cardiff magistrates heard Joshua Smith regularly entered local shops with no intention of buying any goods.
The 24 year-old from Cadoxton was spotted by police officers becoming aggressive and confrontational when he was challenged.
In court, Smith, who was recently convicted of three thefts and one attempted theft, was given a three-year criminal behaviour order.
It means he is banned from three supermarkets in town - namely Asda, Morrisons and Iceland - as well as the One Stop Shop on Broad Street.
He can only enter Holton Road for pre-arranged medical or support service appointments
Smith has also been banned from housing offices at Junction House in Hood Road, Ellis Fisher Court in Broad Street and Ty'r Gyfraith in Greenwood Street.
The court heard the order was necessary to prevent crime and protect the community at large from "continued distress, disruption and potential harm".
PC Adrian Muscat, an anti-social behaviour co-ordinator said South Wales Police "works closely with retailers and businesses to protect them from crime and anti-social committed by individuals like Joshua Smith."
"Shoplifting can have a devastating impact on shopworkers and retailers. This case demonstrates our commitment to tackling retail theft and supporting the industry."
The force says it's adopted a wider approach to tackle an increase in shoplifting in Cardiff and the Vale, meeting with retailers and businesses to improve intellgience sharing, leading to the arrests of prolific offenders and others profiting from retail theft.
