Daniel White, who first joined Round Table as a member of Barry Round Table, is preparing for a six‑day, 190‑mile walk that will take him from Billericay in Essex back home to Barry Island in support of suicide‑prevention charity CALM.
Now Chairman of both Lichfield Round Table and Area 35 Round Table Britain & Ireland, Daniel will set off from The Railway pub in Billericay on Sunday 16 August 2026, aiming to reach Marco’s Café on Barry Island the following Saturday.
He’ll cover around 30 miles a day, walking in support of suicide‑prevention charity CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably).
For Daniel, the route isn’t just a nod to Gavin & Stacey — it’s a return to the community that changed his life.
Round Table became part of Daniel’s world during an extremely difficult period, offering friendship, purpose and support when he needed it most.
“Barry is where my Round Table journey began, so walking back there will make this challenge incredibly personal,” he said. “Round Table helped save my life. This walk is my chance to give something back, raise money for CALM and start conversations that might help someone realise they don’t have to struggle alone.”
Recent analysis of Office for National Statistics data suggests that men account for around three-quarters of suicide deaths registered in 2023, a trend seen since the mid-1990s.
Daniel says the numbers are devastating, but each one represents a real person, a family and a community.
“Nearly four men every week in our region is heartbreaking. That’s why raising awareness and supporting services like CALM matters so much.”
Daniel has chosen CALM as his charity for his year as Area 35 Chairman. Although the campaign is being led from the West Midlands, the funds raised will support CALM’s nationwide services, including free, confidential support for anyone struggling or worried about someone else.
The walk will also promote the Don’t Camo Yourself message — encouraging people not to hide their struggles and to talk openly about mental health.
Round Table is a global movement with more than 30,000 members across 65 countries, and Daniel hopes the challenge will inspire support far beyond the West Midlands.
Members, supporters and the public are invited to join him at the start or walk sections of the route “Whether somebody walks one mile, five miles or an entire day, the company and encouragement will mean a great deal.”
