Residents are being invited to have their say on plans for a new solar farm between Sully and Penarth, as the project moves into its statutory pre-application consultation.
Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru, a renewable energy company owned by the Welsh Government and operating on behalf of and with the people of Wales, is proposing the Larnog Solar Farm at Lavernock in the Vale of Glamorgan.
The development would provide approximately 35MW of installed clean energy capacity, which the company says would make an important contribution to energy security and generate enough electricity to power approximately 13,800 average Welsh homes.
Plans also include measures aimed at improving nature across the site.
An annual community benefit fund worth £400 for every MW of installed capacity is also proposed, which Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru says would provide more than half a million pounds over the lifetime of the project.
Daniel Patterson, Project Manager at Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru, said“We’re looking forward to returning to the local community following our informal consultation earlier this year, which gave us a valuable opportunity to hear from residents.
“Since then, we have carefully considered the feedback received, spoken to local experts and carried out further site surveys. All this information has been used to shape the project’s design.
“This statutory consultation period offers another opportunity for residents to provide feedback, to ensure this project delivers lasting benefits for the Vale of Glamorgan.”
The statutory consultation will run from 11 November until 15 December 2026, following the informal consultation held earlier this year.
As part of the process, Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru will hold two drop-in events at Lower Penarth Community Hall, where residents will be able to view project information boards and maps, read the draft planning application and provide feedback.
The sessions will take place from:
- 3pm to 7pm on Friday 13 November 2026
- 10am to 2pm on Saturday 14 November 2026
Consultation materials and an online feedback form will also be available throughout the consultation period at www.trydanlarnog.wales.
